How to Choose the Right Dumpster Size for Your Project

Picking a container size is mostly about two things: how much material you have and how heavy it is. Guess low and you pay for a second haul. Guess high and you pay for air. A short conversation about the job usually settles it in a minute.

Start with the type of debris, not the volume

Light and bulky material such as furniture, drywall, or brush fills a container fast without adding much weight, so volume is your limit. Dense material such as concrete, tile, dirt, or shingles hits the weight limit long before the container looks full, so weight is your limit.

That is why the same size container can be right for one job and wrong for another. Tell us what you are throwing away first and the size follows from there.

Rough guides that hold up in the field

A single room cleanout, a garage, or a small deck tear off usually fits in a smaller container. A whole house cleanout, a roof, or a kitchen and bath remodel needs more room. Heavy material like concrete and masonry is best in a smaller, low sided container that can be loaded safely and legally on the road.

If you are between two sizes and the debris is light, the larger one is often cheaper than a second pickup.

Think about where it will sit

Driveway width, low branches, overhead wires, soft lawns, and tight shore side streets all affect what we can place. Plywood under the wheels protects a paved driveway. If access is tight, a smaller container placed twice can beat one large container that cannot get in.

Send a photo of the spot if you are unsure. It saves a wasted trip for both of us.

Plan the loading order

Load flat and heavy items first, keep the weight spread evenly, and break down bulky pieces so you are not paying to haul empty space. Keep everything level with the top rail, since an overloaded container cannot be legally tarped or transported.

If you fill up sooner than expected, call and we will schedule a swap.
